2025 (Junior)
Right-handed pitcher who made 17 appearances with 13 starts in his first season at LMU. Logged 67.1 innings while striking out 58 batters and earning five wins. Delivered one of the team’s strongest outings of the year with 7.0 innings of one-run ball against Gonzaga. Recorded eight strikeouts vs Tarleton State and posted scoreless outings against UC Riverside, California Baptist, Pepperdine, and San Diego.

PRIOR TO LMU
Laine spent three seasons at San Diego City College in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, where he developed into one of the top strikeout pitchers in the region. He earned All-PCAC Second Team honors in both 2023 and 2024 and was named SoCal Pitcher of the Week twice during the 2024 season, along with two selections as the conference’s Pitcher of the Week. His 2024 campaign included three outings with 13 or more strikeouts, helping lead SDCC to its first postseason berth in 14 years. Laine paired with teammate Bobby Perebzak—now at Hawai‘i—to form the top strikeout duo in the state, combining for 212 strikeouts, 97 of which came from Laine. He also served as a team captain during his sophomore season.

PERSONAL
Avery is from Riverside, California, and comes from a large family with five siblings. His father, John, played baseball at Mt. San Jacinto College from 1992 to 1993. He made the Dean’s List in 2023 and chose LMU for its welcoming coaching staff, beautiful campus environment, and proximity to home and family—including a cousin currently attending Loyola Law School.

WHY LMU?
