Since his hire in 2014, Mike Oseguera’s work with the goalkeeping core has paid dividends immediately.
In his first season with the Lions, Oseguera led senior goalkeeper Paul Blanchette to his second WCC Goalkeeper of the Year honor, setting the LMU single season record for consecutive shutouts (5) and most shutouts in a season (8). Blanchette finished his career at LMU with the most shutouts in school history (19) and the fifth lowest goals against average (.98). Soon after, Blanchette signed his first professional contract with PEPO Lappeenranta in the Finish 3rd Division and most recently signed with the New York Cosmos in 2019.
In his second season, Oseguera led junior netminder Collin Partee to lead the WCC in saves, saves percentage and saves per game. The LMU backline ranked fourth in the conference with just 20 goals allowed and yielded just seven in WCC play.
Oseguera has also been instrumental in recruiting several nationally ranked recruiting classes including the 2016 class ranked in the top 20 nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
During the 2020-21 season Oseguera once again was instrumental in the Lions getting another WCC Goalkeeper of the Year when Jacob Jackson took home the honor. With Oseguera’s guidance Jackson became the second WCC goalkeeper in the last two completed seasons to post a WCC-only GAA of better than 0.25.
"Mike is the perfect fit for us here at LMU," said Krumpe. "He is an extremely knowledgeable coach, able to train our goalkeepers and push them to achieve the next level in their development. He will also be invaluable working with our field players and brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and a coach, to this position.
Oseguera spent six years (2009-14) at Concordia University, Irvine working with both the men's and women's programs as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach. During his tenure with the Eagles, the men's and women's programs won a combined three GSAC regular season championships and three GSAC Tournament titles. He was also instrumental in recruiting current MLS and LAFC striker Christian Ramirez to CUI, where Ramirez earned GSAC Player of the Year and broke the school scoring record in only two seasons.
Also, during his time in Irvine, Oseguera trained five All-Golden State Athletic Conference goalkeepers, two All-American goalkeepers and 14 GSAC Defenders/Goalkeepers of the Week.
Oseguera also has a deep history in Southern California club and high school soccer. Having coached at numerous clubs in the area, Oseguera served as a head coach for Pateadores FC, Slammers FC, West Coast FC, NHBFC and goalkeeper coach for Strikers FC DA. He was also the Associate Head Coach for the Servite High School Boys Varsity team that won the first CIF Southern Section championship in school history in 2015.
Oseguera began his coaching career as a goalkeeper coach and graduate assistant at Cal State Fullerton in 2006. He has also served as the assistant coach in the semi-pro ranks with the Orange County Blue Star PDL U23 from 2009-13.
A four-year student-athlete at Cal, Oseguera was named an All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection as a sophomore in 2003, and was on the Bears' Pac-10 Championship team in 2006. He went on to compete for the California Cougars of Major Indoor Soccer League (2006) and had trials with both the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA.
He earned his bachelor of arts degree in social welfare from Cal in 2006 and recently completed his Masters of Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. He holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "C" license.
"Mike offers a fantastic youthful enthusiasm which I completely appreciate after coaching this program for over 18 seasons," Krumpe added. "His addition to our staff will pay dividends immediately."
Oseguera resides in Huntington Beach with his wife Tamara and their son Jordan.
