Emily Mitchell is the Sports Dietitian for Loyola Marymount University Athletics. Mitchell holds an ISAK Level One certification and is listed on the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Sports Dietitian Registry.
For the past 3 years, Mitchell has been a consultant with Gatorade Sports Science Institute and assigned to the NBA’s G League South Bay Lakers and Agua Caliente Clippers. Her role is to provide nutrition education, hydration and injury prevention protocols, and game day fueling and travel nutrition. Her work at LMU this past year has primarily been the with the men’s and women’s basketball teams, where her focus has been on both fueling plans and weekly group education to improve performance and prevent injury. Working jointly with the strength coach, she individualizes meals and snacks and grocery shop weekly during COVID-19 and maintain a fueling budget.
In the past, Mitchell lead the nutritional needs of 650 student athletes including four NCAA National Championship Teams as the Director of Sports Nutrition for UCLA Athletics. Mitchell has also individually consulted numerous professional athletes and aided the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with their player’s nutritional needs, Body Comping, supplementation, training table, customized recovery nutrition and “one on one” player consultation during OTAs. On all levels from College to Olympic to Professional Athletes, Mitchell has worked directly with Head Strength/Conditioning Coaches, Senior Athletic Trainers and medical staff, delivered team talks, implemented fueling protocols, designed fueling stations, created nutrition/hydration plans, training tables and travel nutrition plans. She has also closely collaborated with medical care teams to assist with performance, injury prevention, and nutrition education
