Philipp Czernin will be playing in his second season with LMU and his fourth overall after two seasons at Hawaii... on-again, off-again starter who played substantial minutes during the 2000-01 season... a good athlete that can run the floor and is capable of playing above the rim... offensive game was inconsistent and off-season shooting workouts will get his jump shot and ball handling abilities where they need to be... a very good offensive rebounder that needs to continue to place emphasis on that skill... played injured for most of the past season with painful bone spurs in both ankles... had bone spurs removed during surgery this spring... will need to continue improvement on defensive skills to be a factor in the coming season and have the type of senior year the Lions hope for from this Southern California native.

2000-01 at LMU
He finished the 2000-01 season with a 6.1 points per game average and 3.0 rebounds per game... he added 57 assists on the year, including a single game high of nine against Sacramento State... after redshirting the 1999-00 season, Czernin played his first game in over 18 months and finished with a 13-point performance in 25 minutes against Vanguard (11/17/00)... he was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line... followed his first game with a 32 minute performance against UC Irvine (11/21/00), scoring nine points... after four games not in double figures scoring, Czernin would knock down a career-high 17 points in his sixth start of the season against Cal State Fullerton (12/5/00) in 21 minutes of playing time... he was 4-of-5 from the field, and set a career high with a 8-for-13 performance from the line... his performance against Fullerton was followed by probably his most complete game of the season against Sacramento State (12/9/00)... he played 33 minutes to lead the Lions and finished close to a triple-double with nine points, nine assists and eight rebounds, while adding a block and a steal... he set career highs in rebounds and assists against Sacramento State... after starting the previous eight games, Czernin would come off the bench against Loyola-Chicago (12/21/00) scoring six points and adding six assists, a block and four rebounds... was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line... would score seven points in 12 minutes against UCSB (12/30/00)... following game against Gauchos, would struggle over the next six games, averaging just two points per game... would recover with starts against Saint Mary?s (1/21/01) and San Francisco (1/27/01) on the road and score 12 points and added eight rebounds in the road trip... would return home to score 13 points coming off the bench against Portland (2/2/01) adding four rebounds... would score in double figures for the fourth and final time on the season with 11 points on the road against San Diego (2/10/01), going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line... finished the season in the WCC Tournament quarterfinals playing 22 minutes off the bench, scoring eight points and adding four assists against Santa Clara (3/3/01).

1998-99 at HAWAII
A starter in 18 of the team?s 26 games through the season, he averaged 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game...his averages were nearly the same in the WAC, averaging 6.0 ppg and 3.6 rpg...he shot 58.7 percent from the field (64-109) and 60 percent from the free-throw line (24-40)... dished out 58 assists for an average of 2.2 per tilt... recorded eight blocked shots and 20 steals during the season... broke into the starting lineup eight games into the season and made five consecutive starts from that point... after missing one start in the 13th game of the year, he started every game to close out the campaign... enjoyed four games where he scored in double figures... best game of the year came in a 76-66 loss at home to Texas-El Paso (2/4/99) where he tallied 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field... recorded a 14-point effort at San Diego State (2/20/99) where he shot 7-of-11 from the floor and hauled in four rebounds... his best rebounding effort came in games where he totaled seven on back-to-back nights against Brigham Young (1/16/99) and Utah (1/18/99)... registered a career-high seven assists at home against St. Bonaventure (12/19/98)...during the season he led the team in rebounding twice and in assists four times.

A 1997 graduate of Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, CA... a three-year letterwinner in basketball, he served as a team captain as a senior prep... earned All-Westside honors following his senior campaign... played both forward positions in high school... helped guide his team to the Ocean League playoffs and a victory in the first round over Washington his senior year...his final season also earned him All-Area, and All-Conference honors.
