LMU men’s basketball Head Coach Stan Johnson has announced the hiring of Josh Mandell as the program’s next Video Coordinator in 2024. The 2025-26 season will be his second with the Lions.
“We are excited to welcome Josh to our program,” said Johnson. “He has a bright future in the game without question. I have no doubt how much he will impact both our players and staff. I am thankful he decided to be a part of what we are trying to accomplish.”
In 2024-25, Cooper helped lead LMU to two separate win streaks of five games apiece. The Lions closed out non-conference play with five wins in a row and then, for the first time since 1991, won five consecutive wins in conference play.
In November, the LMU Men's Basketball team left foreign soil as MTE Champions. The Lions followed their 2022 Jamaica Classic title with a second in-season tournament title during his tenure leading the Lions. The Lions defeated Belmont in the opening game of the tournament and then overcame a 10-point deficit with less than six minutes to play in the second half to clinch the Championship.
Following the season, Jevon Porter and Caleb Stone-Carrawell were named to the All-WCC Honorable Mention team. For the fourth consecutive, LMU men's basketball had two players selected to the West Coast Conference's All-Academic Team. Rick Issanza and Alex Merkviladze have been voted to the league's All-Academic team with Lamaj Lewis earning Honorable Mention recognition.
After graduating from the University of Washington, Mandell returned to the Huskies basketball program as a Graduate Assistant in 2023-24. During his time in Seattle, Mandell specialized in both on-court skill instruction and video and analytics through top programs and websites. In total, Mandell spend five seasons working with the UW men’s basketball team.
“I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to join Coach Stan Johnson's staff and serve the LMU program and community,” said Mandell. “This program is primed to accomplish great things, and the staff and student-athletes have continuously raised the standard over the last four years. I feel so privileged to be here. I could not be more excited to be a part of this special group and be a Lion!”
