Busfield completed his third season with LMU baseball in 2016... honorable mention All-West Coast Conference selection in 2016... finished first three years with the best walks-per-nine mark (1.80), fourth-most saves (14) and ninth-best ERA (3.83) in LMU history... third team 2016 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American according to Collegiate Baseball... garnered All-West Coast Conference honorable mention accolades in 2015 after setting a new LMU record for saves in a season (14)... 2016... third team Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American according to Collegiate Baseball... earned honorable mention All-WCC honors following 2016 campaign... began the year as LMU's Friday starter... finished season with a 5-4 record and a 4.08 ERA over 13 starts and 88.1 innings of work... struck out 61 batters to just 10 walks... walks-per-nine mark (1.02) was second in LMU history for single-season... accumulated a 4-4 record over nine starts in WCC play... tossed LMU's lone complete game on 5/8 vs. WCC Champion Saint Mary's, earning WCC Pitcher of the Week (9.0 IP | 7 H | 3 ER | BB | 8 K)... walked just nine batters over 63.2 innings pitched against conference foes... had a string of five straight quality starts from 3/4-4/1... 8.0 shutout innings with five strikeouts at Santa Clara on 5/1 to earn series victory... took shutout into ninth at San Diego on 4/1 (W | 8.0 IP | 10 H | 2 ER | 4 K)... 2015... set a new LMU single season record for saves with 14... pitched to a 4-2 record and a 1.89 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 27 appearances and 38 innings of work... combined on three shutouts... was 4-2 with six saves and a 3.15 ERA over 20 innings in WCC play... finished 25 of LMU's 55 games on the hill... did not allow an earned run over first 20.2 innings... threw 3.0 scoreless frames at #20 Arkansas on 3/8... earned the victory over Santa Clara on 3/14 before collecting his sixth save of the year on 3/15 against the Broncos... converted his ninth save on 3/31 at Grand Canyon, protecting a 1-0 shutout... picked up his record-tying 13th save of the year against Long Beach State on 4/21 before taking sole possession of the single-season LMU record for saves with his 14th on 5/15 at San Francisco... 2014... registered a 1-2 record and a 5.35 ERA as a freshman... made 10 appearances and eight starts, tossing 33.2 innings... struck out 24 hitters and walked just seven (3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio)... first collegiate appearance came against Utah Valley on February 16 (1.2 IP | H | 4 K)... first start came on February 18 at San Diego State (ND | 5.0 IP | 3 H | 2 BB | 4 K)... did not allow a run over his first 8.2 innings at the collegiate level... allowed just 1.87 walks per nine innings... John David Busfield, Jr. was born May 5, 1995 in Los Angeles, Calif... son of Karen and John Busfield... has one brother, Kevin, and one sister, Monica... also considered Pepperdine, Dartmouth, Columbia and University of San Diego, but chose LMU because he loves the campus, the whole baseball program is like a family, and he feels at home here... a business finance major.
