Mathew Troupe was named the LMU pitching coach for the 2024 season.
Troupe spent the previous pair of seasons as the pitching coach at Hawaii under former USD head coach Rich Hill. The Rainbow Warriors set school Big West Era records across multiple pitching categories. Hawaii led the Big West in ERA (3.94) and recorded 454 strikeouts, their most strikeouts in a season since 2006.
During his tenure at Hawaii, Troupe worked with multiple All-Big West Selections and MLB draft picks.
Since 2017, Troupe has coached all over the country and internationally in a number of roles. Division III Emory University was his first stop. While with the Eagles, Troupe guided the pitching staff to multiple top 20 national rankings in strikeouts per nine innings, shutouts and strikeout to walk ratio. He also coached Billy Dimlow to first team All-America honors as well as a Pitcher of the Year award. He coached collegiate summer ball teams from 2017-2019, including a pair of seasons with the Cape Cod League Orleans Firebirds. The Firebirds led the Cape Cod League in ERA in 2019 and included six MLB Draft picks.
Troupe has familiarity with the West Coast Conference already as well, working as the Director of Player Development for the University of San Diego until 2021. Additionally, he spent a season coaching team Great Britain in the European Championships in 2020.
A four-year member of the University of Arizona baseball program under Hall of Fame Head Coach Andy Lopez, Mathew emerged as the team's closer during the beginning of his freshman season. He earned two victories in the 2012 College World Series closing out the first game in extra Innings against Florida State and also closing out the final game of the National Championship against South Carolina, helping the Wildcats capture the 2012 National Title. He finished his career with a 12-1 record and 15 saves while striking out 93 through 74 Innings pitched.
Mathew also spent two summers playing for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Collegiate Summer League in 2012 and 2013. In 2013 he earned Cape Cod East All Star and All-League recognition after posting a 1.35 ERA with 11 Saves and striking out 32 hitters in 20 innings of work. Troupe received the team's Tom Yankus Pitching Award and the Charles F. Moore, Jr. Award for outstanding performance on and off the field, and the league's Manny Robello 10th Man Award that season.
After graduating from U of A in 2015, Troupe transferred to Cal State Northridge for his final year of eligibility.
Troupe was born in Northridge, Calif. to his parents, Mark and Lyndy Troupe and has one younger sister, Christina. Troupe recently married his high school sweetheart Rachel and currently resides in Redondo Beach, CA.
