Briefly: Shaina Nishimoto enters her third season of play for the Lions... following a solid freshman season in which she received substantial playing time in 1998, she started in 17 of 19 games for LMU in 1999 as her sophomore season saw great improvement in the backfield for the Lions...will be looked to for experience at defense...competed with the Leahi club team in Honolulu in the summer of 1999...a player who reads the game well...possesses good speed...gained valuable experience last season at centerback and will look to be a cornerstone for the Lions' defense this fall.

At LMU: Nishimoto enters her junior year in the Lions' program...
1999: ...started in 17 games for LMU...played in 18 of the 19 games, and from her defensive position, had a shot on goal against Pepperdine on Oct. 18...
1998:...played in 17 games as a reserve...collected an assist on the game-winning goal against Cal State Northridge on September 25...was a solid contributor to the LMU defense, providing excellent support off of the bench.

High School: Nishimoto is a 1998 graduate of Punahou High School in Honolulu, HI...a four-year letterwinner in soccer, and two-year letterwinner in track...competed in the 100m and long and triple jumps her first two years...a soccer team captain her junior and senior seasons...a three-year all-conference (Interscholastic League of Honolulu) selection...the 1997 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Hawai'i...garnered all-state soccer honors as a senior...honored as Punahou High School's Athlete of the Year in 1998...named the Most Inspirational Player by her teammates...high school teammate of fellow Lion Tumia Moe...prep coaches were Debbie Ching and Wendy Thompson.

Personal: Shaina Loui Nishimoto was born on May 17, 1980 in Honolulu, HI...the daughter of John and Helen Nishimoto...has one sister, Trisha...also considered USC, Georgetown and Gonzaga...her cousin, Erin Otagaki plays soccer at Washington...enjoys going to the beach and watching movies...as a prep, competed against fellow Lion Angela Ichinose...a business major with a minor in psychology.
