Breifly: Shari Nishikawa begins her first year at LMU...one of the
reasons the 2000 freshman class is considered one of the best
recruiting classes in the young history of the program...a very
talented player who participated with the under-18 national team...a
midfielder who will see time on defense at the outside back...as a
true freshman, will compete for starting role.
High School: Nishikawa graduated from Iolani School (Hawai'i) in
2000...she was a three-time letter-winner in soccer...named MVP at
Maui Tournament in 1998...first team conference all star in 1998 and
1999...first team all state selection in her final two
seasons...league honorable mention in basketball in 2000 as a point
guard...participated for two years on track at Iolani.
Personal: Shari (Shar) Joshimi Nishikawa was born on October 19,
1982 in Newport News, Virginia...daughter of Valerie May and Jeffrey
Nishikawa...has two borthers, Jeff, Jr. (28), Branden (22), and two
sisters, Grace (29) and Kara Jo (21)...sister played soccer for UOP
for three years...graduated from Iolani School in 2000 with a 3.2
GPA...will fit in Los Angeles fine, as she enjoys orchestra and
boogie boarding...choose LMU for the small community and its people,
and for the soccer program...also recruited by Portland, UOP, USC,
Nebraska, and Washington State...competed against LMU teammates Mia
Moe and Shaina Nishimoto in high school...she will be a
pre-veteranarian major.
