Change is both exciting and anxiety provoking. We usually want things to stay the same, but only get better. Yet, when the prospects for "better" don't appear to be present, then change is warranted. And the one constant about athletics, universities and life is that change will always occur.

Finding a new head coach for our men's basketball team was an exciting process as well as an anxious one. Finding a good candidate was not the hard part, finding the right candidate was. In selecting Rodney Tention as our coach, we believe that we have found someone who can continue to carry on the high standards and expectation we set in all three areas of our program for our student-athletes - win championships, graduate in four years and leave LMU as better people than when they arrived. You can read Coach Tention's bio on our web site and learn more about him. And when the opportunity presents itself, I would encourage you to introduce yourself and get to know him even better.

Although the focus for the past month or so has been on the basketball staff, I want all to know and remember that Coach Tention is joining a great team of coaches. We have had stability in our staff for some years now and that stability has been a primary reason for the success that LMU Athletics has enjoyed in the past five years. We continue to win championships, make post-season appearances and receive accolades for the student-athletes that represent us because of the efforts of our coaching staff. It would be difficult to find a better group of people, who also happen to be coaches, than the group that is associated with Loyola Marymount University.

As we enter the conclusion of our spring seasons, I hope that you will follow our teams closely. We have enjoyed a successful spring to date and we expect that trend to continue. Best wishes to all and as always ?

Go Lions!
