Briefly...
Joshua Whitesell enters his third season with LMU...will see time as a designated hitter and on the mound...could see very limited time at first base this season to save his arm...a strong left-handed hitter... has a solid bat and will be looked to as a power source...has gotten much stronger...looked for to have a breakout season.
2002 Season Notes at LMU...
Went 6-for-15 (.400) against Portland and CS Fullerton, earning a home run and double in the three games...extended hitting streak went to 12 games in hitting .545 against USF with a slugging percentage of 1.273...tied the record for walks in a game for the second time on the season in game three of series...went 4-for-5 in game two...had an impressive final weekend, going 6-for-12 (.500) against Portland...had four runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI...he finished the season hitting .301, earning six home runs and eight doubles.

Was a multi-purpose player for the Lions, appearing in 49 games, including 21 as a pitcher...he made 44 starts on the season, 10 as the starting pitcher and 21 at first base...finished hitting .314 (55-for-175) with 10 doubles, four home runs and 30 RBI...he had a .440 slugging percentage...on the mound he was 3-5 with a 6.54 ERA....he pitched 52.1 innings and struckout 38...he had 14 multi-hit games at the plate, including a 3-for-6 effort against Cal Poly (2/2/01) with two RBI and a double...he had three hits again against USC (4/24/01) in a 3-for-4 outing with two runs scored...against Pepperdine (4/16/01) he hit his first two home runs of his career with back-to-back shots...he finished 2-for-4 with two RBI...had another home run in 2-for-4 outing against San Francisco (5/6/01) with two RBI and two runs scored...had his final home run in a 2-for-5 outing with two runs scored against Gonzaga (5/11/01)... earned first win of season on mound in relief appearance of 1.1 innings in 3-1 victory over Hawaii-Hilo (2/4/01)...had three strikeouts in 2.1 innings for second win of season in 9-5 victory over CS Dominguez Hills (2/9/01)...had third victory again in relief against Cal Poly (3/2/01)...in 11-10 victory he struckout six in 3.1 innings.

He is a 2000 graduate of Rialto High School in Rialto, CA...had a 4.2 grade point average...graduated second in his class of 685...the pitcher/first baseman finished the 2000 season with an 8-2 record and 1.74 ERA...had 77 strikeouts and 21 walks over the season...finished with a .520 batting average, including 39 RBI and 14 doubles...was a first-team All-CIF Division I selection and first-team All-Citrus Belt League selection...San Bernardino County Player of the Year by the San Bernardino Sun...played for the San Bernardino County North All-Star team...selected to the CBCA Southern California All-Star team...played for US Team in the Goodwill Games against Japan in Long Beach...was a first-team All-Citrus Belt League and first-team All-San Bernardino County selection as a junior, finishing with a 7-4 record and 2.95 ERA with 84 strikeouts...earned the same honors as a sophomore with an 8-4 record and a 1.88 ERA and 70 strikeouts...was class salutatorian.

Joshua Seth Whitesell was born April 14, 1982 in Durham, N.C...he is the son of Robert and Susan Whitesell...has one brother, Alec...father was a diver at the University of Maryland...won Principal[apos]s Award for achievement in scholarship and service and Superintendent[apos]s Award for academic excellence...earned 4.0 GPA six consecutive semesters...was also recruited by California, UCLA, San Diego, Nevada and Pepperdine...an engineering major.
