Mustangs Sneak Past Lions 1-0 on Labor Day

LOS ANGELES — LMU lost to Cal Poly 1-0 on Monday at Sullivan Field. 
 
The Lions generated 14 shots to Cal Poly's six, including three on goal, but were held scoreless.
 
In the first half, LMU pushed forward from 11:29 to 19:33 with five shots and a corner kick, including saved attempts from Adrian Alvarez and Lewis Clutton. The Lions generated the longer attacking spell in the first period, but Cal Poly struck in the 34th minute when Finn Linas scored off assists from Colin Pearce and Matthew Rajecki for a 1-0 lead. 
 
Ky Mani Dade and the Lions defense limited Cal Poly to three shots in the half, while the Lions finished with eight, including another saved chance in the 25th minute. 
 
Matthew Sacristan recorded the Lions' first shot of the half at 49:28 and the home side earned a corner nine seconds later, before Ismail Nieves sent a shot out top in the 64th minute. The Lions also kept Cal Poly off the board during a middle stretch that included three Cal Poly shots and a corner from 55:48 to 67:33, preserving the one-goal margin. 
 
Late in the second half, the Lions pressed for an equalizer, creating six attacking actions from 76:07 to 89:51 while the score remained Cal Poly 1, the Lions 0. Anthony Boyadjian's attempt hit the top woodwork at 76:07, and LMU followed with a corner, a Sam Scott shot at 80:00, Skyler Wright's shot at 89:20 and Dade's even got a late attempt on a corner but the Lions could not find the back of the net.
