LOS ANGELES — After helping Loyola Marymount University women's volleyball open the season 3-0 for the first time since 2018, Maria Tabacuks has been named the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Tabacuks was a consistent force throughout LMU's undefeated opening weekend in Oxford, totaling 52 kills across 10 sets while averaging 5.20 kills per set and hitting .352. She reached double figures in kills in all three victories and finished the weekend with 58.5 points, 25 digs, six blocks and three service aces.
The outside hitter opened the season with 12 kills and eight digs in LMU's 3-0 victory over Northern Arizona, helping the Lions hit .308 as a team while beginning the year with a sweep.
Tabacuks elevated her performance the following day against Southeastern Louisiana, delivering one of the most efficient offensive outings of the weekend. She recorded 21 kills on 38 attempts without committing a single attack error, hitting .553 in another straight-set LMU victory. She also added three blocks, including one solo, as the Lions finished the match hitting .347.
She closed the weekend with another strong all-around showing against Ole Miss, recording 19 kills and 11 digs for her first double-double of the season. Tabacuks finished with 22.0 points in the four-set victory as LMU earned its third consecutive win and completed an undefeated weekend.
Her impact extended beyond the final stat line. Against Southeastern Louisiana, Tabacuks helped LMU erase an early first-set deficit and later delivered the kill that secured the second set. In Sunday's win over Ole Miss, she recorded eight kills in the opening frame before helping spark LMU's decisive fourth-set comeback. With the Lions trailing 18-15, Tabacuks contributed during a late surge that put LMU in control before delivering the match-clinching kill in the 25-22 fourth set.
Through the opening weekend, Tabacuks leads LMU with 52 kills and 58.5 points as the Lions carry a 3-0 record into the next stretch of non-conference play.
