DALLAS — LMU (0-2-1, 0-0-0) fell to No. 5 SMU (3-0-0, 0-0-0) 2–0 on Friday at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.
The first half began with LMU quickly establishing its presence on the field. The Lions nearly found the opener early on when
Felix Contreras found some space in the box and headed a corner just wide.
Samir-Mohamed Djeha and
Adrian Alvarez later contributed to the attack with a pair of shots in the 28th minute, though neither found the net.
SMU's Joseluis Villagomez scored in the 38th minute, assisted by Nick Harshaw and Ryder Balch, putting the Lions at a 1–0 disadvantage.
Jacob Diaz nearly equalized for the Lions when he nudged a bouncing ball on trying to find the far side of the net. His effort went just wide.
Axel Uriostegui, bolstered by his first collegiate goal on Monday, nearly evened the score with a blistering shot from way outside the box, but his swerving effort went just outside the bar.
SMU extended its lead with a goal by Andre Philibbosian at 58:41 marking the final score tally.
Ky Mani Dade recorded three saves against twenty shots faced across 90 minutes, including a pair of magnificent saves in the waning minutes to keep the deficit at two.
Looking ahead, the Lions will host UNLV on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles.
