Lions Battle No. 9 Pepperdine in Tough Road Test

MALIBU, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team faced a tough challenge on Tuesday afternoon, falling to No. 9 Pepperdine, 7-0, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The Waves claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Pepperdine opened with a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 position before LMU responded on court two, where Helene Schnack and Kim-Michaela Zahraj earned a strong 6-3 win over a ranked Waves pair. Pepperdine ultimately clinched the point with a 6-4 decision on court one to take a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Pepperdine built its lead quickly, beginning from the middle of the lineup. No. 119 Duru Soke was first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4, followed by No. 26 Anastasiia Grechkina who earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 to give the Waves a 3-0 edge. Chantal Sauvant then clinched the match at the No. 3 position, holding off a late push from Zahraj to secure a 6-0, 7-5 win and the overall victory.

At the top of the lineup, Lidia Gonzalez battled No. 38 Ziva Falkner in a tightly contested match, ultimately falling 7-5, 6-4. Further down the lineup, Schnack pushed her match to a third-set tiebreak at No. 5 before narrowly dropping a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 decision, while Camilia Samel-Druz forced a second-set tiebreak at No. 6 in a competitive 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) match.

Despite the final scoreline, the Lions showed fight across multiple courts against one of the nation's top-ranked teams as they continue West Coast Conference play.
