Jamgotchian Walk-Off Homer Caps Alumni Day Comeback

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - On a special Alumni Day at Smith Field, LMU softball delivered a storybook finish, as Izzy Jamgotchian launched a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Lions to a 6-3 victory over Pacific, sealing the series sweep.

Before the game even began, the day carried added meaning. LMU legend Sam Fischer returned to campus to throw out the ceremonial first pitch – fittingly to Jamgotchian. In a full-circle moment, Fischer later handed the ball off to Jamgotchian, symbolizing the passing of the torch as the senior has officially surpassed Fischer in LMU's record books in career RBIs, base on balls, and continues to chase her marks across multiple categories.

The game itself unfolded as a battle.

Pacific struck first with a solo home run in the second, and the Lions spent much of the afternoon grinding for opportunities. LMU broke through in the fourth, capitalizing on pressure and a key RBI from Rubi Lopez to even the score.

From there, it became a pitching duel. Jessie Gilbert set the tone early before Sawyer Denser delivered a strong outing in relief, keeping the Tigers off the board through the middle innings.

The Lions found momentum again in the sixth. After a leadoff single from Sydney Poole, aggressive baserunning and timely execution helped LMU plate two runs and take a 3-1 lead, highlighted by an RBI from Justine Lambert and pressure that forced a Pacific error.

But the Tigers weren't done yet.

Pacific answered in the top of the seventh, stringing together a clutch two-run double to tie the game at 3-3 and set the stage for late-game drama.

That's when Jamgotchian delivered.

After a leadoff baserunner reached and Avery Francis followed with a single, the senior stepped to the plate with a chance to end it. She did just that – crushing a three-run walk-off home run to left center, sending the Lions into celebration and sealing the series sweep.

Jamgotchian finished the day with three RBIs, pushing her career total to 177, further extending her standing as LMU's all-time RBI leader. The home run marked her 19th of the season, a new personal single-season best and second-most in program history, trailing only Fischer's 23 in 2012. She also continued to add to her record-breaking career walks total and now sits at 52 RBIs this season, moving into second place in LMU single-season history – once again behind Fischer.

Elsewhere, Avery Francis continued her standout season, collecting a hit and, dating back to yesterday's game, establishing a new LMU single-season WCC stolen base record with 28.

In the circle, Lindsay O'Dell earned the win after closing out the final innings, while Denser's five strikeouts in relief played a key role in keeping LMU within striking distance.

On a day that honored the past, it was a moment that defined the present, and the future, as Jamgotchian etched her name even deeper into LMU history and delivered a walk-off victory the Lions won't soon forget.
