Extra-Inning Grit: Lions Take Series Opener Behind Jamgotchian’s 15th Homer

SEATTLE, Wash. - The LMU softball team battled through an extra-inning thriller on Thursday evening, earning a gritty 2-1 victory over Seattle U at Logan Field.

In a tightly contested game from the start, the Lions leaned on a dominant pitching effort and timely offense to outlast the Redhawks in eight innings. LMU improved to 26-15 overall and 3-4 in WCC play with the win.

After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning, LMU remained composed behind a strong showing in the circle. A trio of pitchers combined to hold Seattle U to just one run, with Lindsay O'Dell delivering four shutout innings in relief to earn the win.

The Lions broke through in the sixth inning in a big way, as Izzy Jamgotchian launched her 15th home run of the season to left center, evening the score at 1-1 and injecting life into the LMU dugout.

With the game deadlocked into extra innings, LMU capitalized on an opportunity in the eighth. Jamgotchian sparked the rally with a leadoff single before Mya Allen entered as a pinch runner and promptly stole second. The pressure paid off moments later when Sakora Harvell put the ball in play, forcing an error that allowed Allen to race home with the go-ahead run.

O'Dell returned to the circle in the bottom half of the inning and shut the door, retiring the side to secure the 2-1 victory and complete the extra-inning win for the Lions.

LMU finished with five hits on the night, highlighted by Jamgotchian's two-hit performance and Harvell's key contributions, while the Lions' pitching staff combined to limit Seattle U to just one run on six hits.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. for game two of the three-game series against Seattle U.
