Lions Roll Past Pacific in Senior Day Victory

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team delivered a strong performance on Senior Day, defeating Pacific, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center. Following the match, the Lions honored graduate students Lidia Gonzalez and Kim-Michaela Zahraj in a heartfelt on-court ceremony celebrating their impact on the program.

The Lions secured the early advantage by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Anastasia Bozova and Ada Piestrzynska opened the day with a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position, followed by Zahraj and Helene Schnack who clinched the point with a 6-3 win on court two. The match on court three went unfinished with LMU holding a 5-3 lead.

In singles, LMU built its lead in chronological order, starting from the middle of the lineup. Anastasia Bozova was first off the court with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, quickly followed by Zahraj who delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to give the Lions a 3-0 advantage. Camilia Samel-Druz then clinched the match for LMU with a strong 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.

Matches on the remaining courts went unfinished, with Gonzalez leading at the No. 1 position and Piestrzynska holding an edge at No. 2 when play was halted.

The afternoon concluded with an emotional Senior Day ceremony honoring Zahraj and Gonzalez for their dedication and contributions to LMU women's tennis. Zahraj, a graduate student from Frankfurt, Germany, has been a steady and reliable presence in the lineup since joining the program in 2022, earning All-Academic honors and posting an impressive 13-4 singles record this season while competing across multiple positions.

Gonzalez, a graduate student from Madrid, Spain, made an immediate impact in her lone season as a Lion, competing at the No. 1 singles position and earning WCC Singles Player of the Week honors. With a decorated background that includes competing at the ITA National Championships and representing the Spanish National Team, she quickly became a key leader at the top of the lineup.

Together, the two graduate seniors were celebrated not only for their accomplishments on the court, but for their leadership, work ethic, and lasting impact on the program, as teammates, coaches, and fans recognized their contributions one final time at the LMU Tennis Center.

With the win, the Lions showcased their depth and control while closing out Senior Day in dominant fashion.
