Lions Explode Late Behind Gilbert’s Shutout to Defeat UNLV, 7-0

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - LMU softball closed out their weekend in Las Vegas with a thrilling bounce-back performance Sunday afternoon, defeating UNLV 7-0 behind a dominant outing in the circle from Jessie Gilbert and a late offensive surge at Eller Media Stadium.

After a scoreless battle through the first five innings, the Lions broke the game open in the sixth. Avery Francis sparked the rally with a double into the gap before Izzy Jamgotchian stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to deep right field, giving LMU a 2-0 lead and shifting the momentum firmly in the Lions' favor.

LMU kept the pressure on in the seventh inning with a decisive five-run outburst. Sakora Harvell reached base to start the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Analiah Lummus to extend the lead. Moments later, Scarlett Carlson delivered an RBI double to bring home another run before Sydney Poole drove in two more with a single through the right side. Taelor Walker capped the inning with an RBI single, pushing the Lions' advantage to 7-0.

The Lions finished with 11 hits, highlighted by a strong day from Walker, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Francis and Justine Lambert each added two hits. Jamgotchian's sixth-inning home run proved to be the turning point that ignited LMU's offense.

Meanwhile, Gilbert delivered a gem of a performance in the circle. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out five to keep the Rebels off the scoreboard throughout the afternoon.

With the victory, LMU improved to 18-7 on the season, closing the weekend on a strong note after splitting the two-game series with UNLV.
