Lions Push Late Run in Matchup with No. 7 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount softball battled No. 7 UCLA on Wednesday evening at Easton Stadium, but the Bruins used an early power surge to secure a 9-1 victory over the Lions.

UCLA struck quickly in the opening inning with three solo home runs to take an early lead. The Bruins added another run in the second before extending their advantage in the third inning, building an 8-0 margin through the first three frames.

After the early scoring, the Lions settled in defensively. Sara Pinedo entered in relief during the second inning and recorded two strikeouts, while Sawyer Denser followed with a steady outing that helped hold UCLA scoreless in the fourth.

LMU found their rhythm offensively as the game progressed. Mya Allen recorded the Lions' first hit of the night with a single through the left side in the third inning, and Taelor Walker added another base hit up the middle in the fourth to keep the pressure on.

The Lions broke through in the fifth inning. Meeya Johnson worked a walk and Allen followed with another free pass before Avery Francis lined a single up the middle to load the bases. Izzy Jamgotchian then put the ball in play, reaching on a fielder's choice that brought Johnson home to get LMU on the board.

UCLA added a run in the bottom of the fifth to close out the contest. The Bruins finished with nine runs on nine hits, while the Lions recorded three hits and drew four walks.

Lindsay O'Dell was charged with the loss for LMU, while the Lions moved to 18-8 overall on the season following the midweek matchup.
