SANTA CLARA, Calif. – #7 LMU women's water polo did not allow a goal until the fourth quarter in Sunday's Golden Coast Conference win at Santa Clara. The Lions played over 26 minutes without giving up a goal before ultimately winning, 18-1.
A 5-0 first quarter set the tone before LMU added four more goals in each of the second and third quarter to take a 13-0 lead entering the final period.
Santa Clara's lone goal came with 5:58 remaining in the game. The Lions closed out the period with the final five goals to finish with the team's largest margin of victory since opening day.
15 different players scored for LMU in the win, with
Cila David,
Emison Styris, and
Cianne Benjamin each scoring a pair apiece.
Chelse Isaac,
Carla Rivera,
Anna Tarantino,
Carolina Magano,
Kawehi Kauahi,
Noa Sasover,
Sydney Chapman,
Ruby Meier,
Payton Schrier,
Athena Ayers,
Lily Larson, and
Sophia DeMattia all scored a goal in the game.
LMU used all three goalkeepers in the win.
Madison Searle played eight scoreless minutes in the first quarter, Tatum Rositacher replaced her and did not allow a goal, and
Gabby MacAfee closed out the game with three saves over the final 11-plus minutes.
The Lions return home for two final home matches, including hosting Azusa Pacific on Friday night under the lights for Senior Day.
