STOCKTON, Calif. – #7 LMU women's water polo moved to 3-0 in the Golden Coast Conference after defeating #21 Pacific, 13-7. The Lions led by one at halftime and then did not allow a goal in the third quarter to win by six.
Anna Tarantino gave LMU the early 1-0 lead before Pacific scored the next two goals to take their first lead. After
Noa Sasover tied the game at 2-all, the Tigers closed out the first quarter with the next two goals to take a 4-2 lead.
Three consecutive goals from the Lions to open the second quarter pushed LMU back on top.
Emison Styris scored, followed by
Brooke Tora Gil to tie the game, and
Cila David to push LMU ahead. After Pacific scored twice to take a 6-5 lead, David closed the half with two goals in the final 38 seconds to give the Lions a 7-6 lead after one.
Back-to-back goals from Styris to begin the second half extended the lead to three. LMU did not allow a goal in the third quarter as
Kawehi Kauahi and
Anna Tarantino pushed it to a five-goal lead, and David's fourth goal at 1:19 doubled up the score 12-6 in favor of the visitors.
Each team scored once late in the fourth as Pacific scored with 2:09 on the game clock and Sasover closed the scoring with 1:40 to play.
Madison Searle made six saves in the cage to earn the win.
The Lions will have a quick turnaround with another conference game on Sunday at Santa Clara.
