SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - LMU suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 5-2 to Cal Poly at the Ronca Tennis Center.
Max Wuelfing remained undefeated for the Lions, winning his third consecutive No. 1 singles match with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Jovan Lubbe. Wuelfing also teamed with Alex Padro to win 6-3 in No. 1 doubles.
The Mustangs won four of six singles courts to salt away the victory.
Cal Poly's Raz Haviv defeated Emil Kindhult 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Luc Hoeijmans topped
Kuba Hrynkiewicz 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. Jack Cross rallied for a three-set victory over
Cyrus Ahmad 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 4, and Aaron Eliscu cruised past
Sascha Nothdurft 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
Padro provided LMU's only other point with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sean Kamyshev at No. 5 singles.
In doubles, Cal Poly's Jack Cross and Sean Kamyshev defeated Kindhult and Hrynkiewicz 6-4 at No. 2, while Luc Hoeijmans and Leo Matthysen beat Ahmad and
Darius Tamaddon 6-2 at No. 3.
The Lions will return home on Tuesday to face UC Riverside at the LMU Tennis Center.
