Lions Collect 11 Hits but Come Up Just Short Against BYU

FULLERTON, Calif. - LMU softball put together another strong offensive performance on Friday afternoon, piling up 11 hits and generating scoring opportunities throughout the game, but ultimately fell 5-4 in a tight matchup at Anderson Family Field.

The Lions (13-4) came out sharp, striking first in the opening inning as Avery Francis set the tone with a leadoff single, a stolen base, and a run scored on an RBI knock from Izzy Jamgotchian. LMU continued to apply pressure with quality at-bats, extending the lead in the fourth behind a productive burst sparked by Justine Lambert, whose bunt single and aggressiveness on the bases opened the door for a two-run frame. Sakora Harvell delivered an RBI single, and Analiah Lummus followed with another run-scoring hit to push LMU ahead.

Lambert continued her standout afternoon in the sixth, notching her third hit of the day before scoring on Lummus' second RBI of the game to bring LMU back within one. The Lions mounted another late push in the seventh when Taelor Walker singled and advanced into scoring position, but BYU was able to hold off the rally.

Despite the final score, LMU's offensive leaders shined throughout the contest. Lambert led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Lummus added a strong 2-for-3 day with two RBI, while Walker finished with two hits of her own. Francis chipped in a hit, a run, and a stolen base from the leadoff spot, and Jamgotchian recorded an RBI and reached base twice.

In the circle, Jessie Gilbert provided a clean inning of relief to keep the Lions within striking distance down the stretch.

LMU returns to action tomorrow, looking to turn strong individual performances into another bounce-back win as the weekend continues.
