Lions Take Early Momentum, Earn Morning Victory in Competitive Saturday Split

FULLERTON, Calif. - LMU softball capped a competitive Saturday with a split on the road, using timely hitting and a complete-game performance to defeat East Texas A&M 5-3 before dropping a tightly contested 7-5 decision to Cal State Fullerton in the afternoon.

Game 1: LMU 5, East Texas A&M 3
The Lions set the tone early in the day with a steady, composed win behind one of their most balanced offensive efforts of the weekend. After falling behind 2-0 in the second, LMU responded immediately with back-to-back bunt singles from Justine Lambert and Analiah Lummus to spark a two-run frame, highlighted by an RBI single from Sakora Harvell and another run-scoring hit from Avery Francis.

LMU broke the 2-2 tie in the fifth, where Francis ignited the go-ahead rally by dropping down a bunt single and stealing second. A walk for Izzy Jamgotchian and an RBI single from Sydney Poole pushed LMU ahead, and Taelor Walker added a sacrifice fly before Lambert punched another RBI single to cap the three-run inning.

Francis finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a stolen base, while Lambert added a 2-for-3 day with a key RBI. Poole, Harvell, and Lummus each contributed hits as LMU totaled nine on the morning.

In the circle, Jessie Gilbert was strong from start to finish, tossing a complete game with seven strikeouts and holding East Texas A&M scoreless in five of seven innings to earn the win.

Game 2: Cal State Fullerton 7, LMU 5
The Lions carried their offensive rhythm into the afternoon matchup, breaking through with a three-run third inning. After a leadoff walk and a fielder's choice, Izzy Jamgotchian delivered the biggest swing of the day, a two-run homer to left-center to put LMU on the board. Sydney Poole followed with a sharp single, and Taelor Walker added another base hit before Jaida Fulcher drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0.

Fullerton responded with four runs in the bottom half and later moved ahead 5-4 despite LMU tying the game in the fourth on a Poole RBI single. A two-run homer from the Titans in the sixth created the final separation.

Poole continued her standout day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jamgotchian finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Walker, Francis, Lambert, and Scarlett Carlson each added hits. LMU out-hit Fullerton 8-6 and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but the Titans held on.
