Lions Stun No. 23 Washington as Coach Flowers Earns 150th Win

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - LMU Softball closed out the Mary Nutter Classic with their biggest win of the season, stunning No. 23 Washington with a 5-4 victory on Sunday and delivering Head Coach Tairia Flowers her 150th career win at LMU. The milestone came on a day that also cemented program history: with the result, the Lions improve to 13-2, marking the best 15-game start in LMU Softball history.

Washington struck first with a three-run homer in the opening frame, but the Lions responded immediately, showing the poise and resilience that have defined their record-breaking start. LMU put up two runs in the second, highlighted by a leadoff single from Sakora Harvell and an RBI sacrifice fly from Analiah Lummus, before tying the game in the fourth when Avery Francis scored on a defensive miscue. Francis was electric all afternoon, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The breakthrough came in the sixth. Mya Allen opened the inning with a single, Francis followed with her third hit of the day, and Izzy Jamgotchian delivered the momentum-swinging blow, an RBI double into the gap to give LMU its first lead. Moments later, Sydney Poole's sacrifice fly added a crucial insurance run to make it 5-3.

In the circle, Lindsay O'Dell and Sara Pinedo combined to hold the Huskies to just six hits. Pinedo closed out the final 3.2 innings with steady, composed work, allowing only one run and slamming the door in the seventh to secure the upset.

Washington threatened late with a run in the sixth, but LMU's defense, including a key outfield relay to cut down the tying run at the plate, kept the Lions in front for good.

With the 5-4 win, the Lions leave the Mary Nutter Classic with momentum, history made, and their head coach reaching a milestone victory against a nationally ranked opponent. A signature day for Coach Flowers. A signature win for LMU.
