Relentless Defense Leads Lions to 78-54 Win at Seattle University

SEATTLE, Wa. - LMU delivered a commanding road performance on Thursday night, defeating Seattle University, 78-54, at the Redhawk Center to improve to 18-8 overall and 12-3 in WCC play. The Lions controlled the game from the opening tip, using suffocating defense and balanced scoring to secure their fourth straight victory.

LMU set the tone early by holding the Redhawks to just nine first-quarter points while forcing 17 turnovers in the first half alone. That defensive intensity fueled a rapid offensive pace, helping the Lions build a 20-9 lead after the opening period and extend the margin to 48-21 by halftime.

Maya Hernandez powered LMU's offensive attack with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. The junior attacked the rim throughout the night, adding four rebounds and a steal as she anchored LMU's scoring presence inside.

Allison Clarke provided one of the game's most impactful performances off the bench, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a team-best seven steals. Her defensive pressure created constant disruption, contributing heavily to LMU's 40 points off turnovers and 17 fast-break points. The Lions' bench ultimately outscored Seattle's reserves 35-5, showcasing the depth that has fueled LMU's success this season.

Graduate guard Jess Lawson added a milestone moment to her stat line. With her five rebounds on the night, accompanied by five steals and nine points, Lawson officially surpassed the 700 career rebounds mark, a testament to her consistency and toughness throughout her career. Her defensive effort also played a major role in LMU's transition scoring and overall pace.

Zawadi Ogot (10 points, two rebounds) and Andjela Matic (nine points, five rebounds) contributed steady production, while LMU dominated the rebounding battle 36-25 and controlled the paint with a 34-26 scoring advantage. The Lions also shot an impressive 22-of-24 from the free-throw line (92%), maintaining full command of the game through all four quarters.

The Lions stretched their lead to as many as 31 midway through the third quarter and never allowed Seattle to close the gap meaningfully, continuing to showcase the defensive identity, tempo, and depth that have made them one of the WCC's toughest matchups down the stretch.

Up next, the Lions return to Gersten Pavilion for a special Senior Day contest, hosting the University of San Diego at 4 PM.
