Lions Rally in Singles to Defeat UCSD, 4-2

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team powered through singles play on Wednesday afternoon, defeating UC San Diego 4-2 at Northview Tennis Courts after dropping the doubles point.

LMU faced early pressure as UCSD secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Despite a strong 6-3 victory from Kim-Michaela Zahraj and Helene Schnack on court three, the Tritons claimed the opening edge, forcing the Lions to respond in singles.

On court six, Zahraj set the tone for the comeback with a dominant straight-sets performance, rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 victory to even the momentum. Sofia Perovani followed with another composed outing at No. 5 singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win to give LMU control of the match.

Freshman Helene Schnack continued her strong form at No. 4 singles, securing a confident 6-3, 6-2 victory to extend the Lions' lead. At the top of the lineup, Lidia Gonzalez delivered the clinching point in impressive fashion, battling through a tight first-set tiebreak before closing out a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles.

Despite a tough three-set battle left unfinished on court two and a setback on court three, LMU's four singles victories proved decisive in securing the road result.

The win highlights the Lions' depth and ability to reset after doubles play, as LMU improves to 5-2 on the season with another strong singles surge away from home.
