Box Score 2 LA JOLLA, Calif. – The #9 LMU women's water polo team showed second half fight, coming back against #12 UC San Diego in Saturday third game of the Triton Invitational. The Lions trailed the hosts 4-1 at halftime before winning 8-7 with a dominant second half. This came after LMU lost in the morning game to #7 Long Beach State, 15-5.

The Lions trailed 2-0 in the first quarter against UCSD.
Anna Tarantino scored LMU's only first half goal with a penalty shot at 5:11 of the second quarter. The Tritons scored two more to take a 4-1 lead at intermission.

Chelsea Isaac scored on LMU' s first possession of the second half to cut the deficit to 4-2. After UC San Diego converted a penalty goal of their own, the Lions closed the period with three consecutive goals as
Brooke Tora Gil, Tarantino, and Isaac evened the game at 5-5.

After UCSD opened the final period with a go-ahead goal, Tora Gil leveled the score at 6-6 on LMU's ensuing possession. The two sides traded goals again all within the first two minutes of the period with
Emison Styris providing an equalizing response to the go-ahead goal.
Sophia DeMattia scored the game-winner on a 6-on-5 coming out of a timeout with 3:51 remaining. That score remaining as LMU held on to win.

Madison Searle made 13 saves in the cage for the Lions.
With the win, LMU will play for fifth-place in the competitive tournament and face #6 Arizona State for the second time in as many weeks. The game will be played at 10:50 AM from Triton Pool.
