EUGENE, OR - LMU softball came out swinging in Eugene, OR, stealing a 5–3 win against No. 6 Oregon Ducks.
The last time the Lions defeated a top-10 program was on Feb. 27, 2020, against the No. 4 LSU Tigers at the Judi Garman Classic.
The Ducks got on the board first, scoring two runs early, putting the Lions in a trailing position, but that wouldn't last long.
In the top of the second,
Izzy Jamgotchian kicked it off with a triple, and
Mika Chong wasted no time driving her in with a double. Then, with two outs,
Cristina Jones came through with an RBI single, and the game was tied just like that.
Emma Gutierrez made sure it didn't stop there, launching a two-run homer, giving the Lions a 4–2 lead.
Oregon scratched across a run in the bottom of the third, but LMU answered right back. In the fourth,
Kealani Caster added to the Lions lead with a solo home run, making it 5-3.
From there, the Lions pitching and defense took control.
Lindsay O'Dell and
Jessica Hubbard combined to shut out the Ducks over the final four innings, locking down the upset win.
The Lions play again on April 12th against the San Diego Toreros at Smith Field.
