CORVALLIS, OR
– LMU softball kicked off WCC play with a statement, sweeping Oregon State in a doubleheader on the road. The Lions dominated game one with a 10-2 win and followed it up with a strong 5-2 victory in game two.
Game 1:
LMU wasted no time getting on the board, as
Izzy Jamgotchian launched a solo homer in the second inning to open the scoring.
Jessica Hubbard was locked in from the start, retiring the first nine batters she faced and setting the tone with three quick innings.
LMU added a couple more in the third when
Sakora Harvell brought in a run home, and Jamgotchian added an RBI on a fielder's choice, putting the Lions up, 3-0.
Oregon State responded in the fourth with a two-run double to cut the deficit to one, but that was as close as they'd get.
LMU blew things open in the seventh. After
Sydney Poole led off with a single and the bases loaded, Jamgotchian delivered her second home run of the game, a grand slam. Moments later,
Kealani Caster capped the inning with a two-run shot of her own, pushing the score to 10-2.
Hubbard closed out the complete game in style, shutting the door with another clean frame.
Game 2:
The second game started as a pitcher's duel, with
Lindsay O'Dell holding OSU at bay until a two-run single gave the Beavers a brief lead in the second.
LMU looked to respond in the third as Poole and
Justine Lambert strung together back-to-back singles, but the Lions came up empty.
It wasn't until the fifth that things shifted. Lambert collected her third hit of the game, and with two outs, Jamgotchian struck again, launching a go-ahead two-run homer to give LMU a 3-2 edge.
Mika Chong followed with a walk,
Analiah Lummus doubled, and Caster added another RBI double to extend the lead to two.
Harvell tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single, and the Lions held on for the 5-2 win.
The series continues tomorrow at 2 PM in Corvallis.
