LMU Softball Takes Two From Pacific

STOCKTON, CA - The Lions swept Friday's doubleheader against Pacific, taking the opener 8-4 before shutting out the Tigers 3-0 in game two.
Game 1:

Pacific struck first with two runs in the second inning, jumping out to an early lead. LMU answered back in the fourth when Izzy Jamgotchian launched a solo home run to get the Lions on the board. Kealani Caster followed with an RBI double to even the score at 2-2, and Sydney Poole capitalized on an error that brought home two more runs, giving LMU a 4-2 edge.

The offense kept rolling in the fifth. Sakora Harvell singled and later scored on a Jamgotchian double. Mika Chong added an RBI, and Emma Gutierrez capped the rally with an RBI single to extend the Lions' lead to 7-2.

Pacific tried to rally with two runs in the sixth, but LMU added an important insurance run in the seventh when pinch-runner Mika Yuge scored on a Jasmine Sofowora single.

Jessica Hubbard entered the circle in relief of Lindsay O'Dell during the second inning and steadied the defense, limiting Pacific to just two runs the rest of the way.

Game 2:

Both teams struggled to break through offensively early, with the score locked at 0-0 through five innings.

LMU finally broke the deadlock in the sixth. Justine Lambert led off with a single, moved over on an Arianna Jaurequi bunt, and scored on a clutch RBI double from Jasmine Sofowora. Moments later, Izzy Jamgotchian delivered the knockout blow, crushing a two-run homer to give the Lions a 3-0 cushion.

Pacific was unable to answer in the final two innings, sealing a second win of the day for LMU.

The Lions and Tigers will meet again on Sunday at 12 PM in Stockton, CA.
