Lions Come Up Short in Back and Forth Battle with Toreros

LOS ANGELES – LMU came up just short in a back-and-forth battle with San Diego on Sunday afternoon, falling 6–4 to the Toreros.

USD struck first in the top of the second, stringing together a few hits to plate the opening run. The Lions quickly responded in the bottom half when Mika Yuge, pinch running for Izzy Jamgotchian, crossed the plate thanks to a Torero miscue.

LMU grabbed the lead in the third as Sydney Poole blasted a triple and scored on Justine Lambert's RBI single. The Lions continued to apply pressure but could not tack on additional runs.

A solo homer by San Diego in the fourth tied the game at two, but the Lions again answered. Sakora Harvell led off the bottom of the inning with a double and came around to score on a base hit from Analiah Lummus, putting LMU back in front 3–2.

The momentum shifted in the fifth when the Toreros loaded the bases and pushed across two runs to retake the lead. LMU battled back in the sixth, with Jamgotchian launching a solo shot to even the score at 4–4.

However, a two-run home run from USD in the top of the seventh would ultimately be the difference. The Lions mounted one last rally in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but couldn't bring the tying run across.

LMU will look to regroup next weekend as they travel to Stockton, CA, to face the Pacific Tigers.
