– The LMU Lions secured a commanding 66-52 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos in the second round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship.
Four of LMU's five starters finished in double figures, with
Brandi Williams leading all scorers with 22 points while adding eight rebounds.
Naudia Evans contributed 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while
Maya Hernandez recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 boards.
Carly Heidger also made a strong impact, tallying 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
SCU came out strong, shooting 43.8% from the field in the first quarter and holding a slight 17-16 lead. However, the Lions responded in the second quarter with a 5-0 run, sparked entirely by Heidger, that put them ahead. LMU closed the half on a 7-0 run, outscoring the Broncos 19-10 in the quarter to take a 35-26 lead at halftime.
The third quarter remained competitive, with both teams shooting just over 30% from the field. LMU's aggressiveness at the free-throw line helped maintain the advantage, as the Lions went a perfect 6 for 6 from thr stripe and extended their lead to 52-40 heading into the final period.
In the fourth, free throws remained a key factor, with LMU converting 9 of 10 from the line. Williams dominated, scoring the bulk of her points in the quarter, including a clutch three-pointer. A late 8-0 run in the final minutes sealed the victory for the Lions.
With the win, LMU advances to the next round and will face the San Francisco Dons tomorrow at 12 PM.
