COLLEGE STATION, TX – The LMU softball team fell to the No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies, 13-1, Friday evening at Davis Diamond.
TAMU took advantage early in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on a groundout and a sacrifice fly to take the lead.
LMU showed patience at the plate in the second, drawing two hit-by-pitches to put runners on, but Texas A&M's pitching remained dominant. A solo home run in the bottom of the inning extended TAMU's lead to 3-0.
LMU had another opportunity in the third after
Arianna Jaurequi drew a walk and advanced to second, but once again, the offense could not break through.
Angela Carrera made her second appearance this season in relief of
Jessica Hubbard, but Texas A&M tacked on three more runs in the inning.
A seven-run fourth inning by the Aggies put the game out of reach. LMU broke through in the fifth when Jaurequi worked another walk, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a clutch RBI from
Sakora Harvell.
Harvell led the Lions offense with two hits and an RBI, while
Justine Lambert contributed with a hit and a stolen base. Hubbard, Carrera, and
Mina Tala shared pitching duties, battling through TAMU's offense.
The Lions and Aggies meet again on Saturday at 2 PM in College Station, TX.
