LOS ANGELES – The LMU baseball team fell to San Diego 11-1 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon at Page Stadium.
The Lions could only muster three hits against the Toreros as the offense sputtered for most of the afternoon.
One bright spot of the afternoon was junior infielder DJ Ghiorso's offensive output. He worked a walk, was hit by a pitch and singled to mark a perfect day at the plate. Ghiorso also scored the lone run for the Lions. Similarly, he was perfect in the field with three chances.
The Lions may have a hidden weapon in reliever
Gabe Maya as he once again threw up a scoreless outing. Head coach
Donegal Fergus has mostly deployed Maya in matchup opportunities, but the left-hander was given an extended look on Saturday. He recorded four outs in 15 pitches. He has thrown 7.1 scoreless innings this season.
The Lions and Toreros will finish the series with a 1:00 p.m. (PT) matchup on Sunday afternoon.
