SAN DIEGO, CA – Thursday evening, the Lions took down the San Diego Toreros, 63-60.
Maya Hernandez led all scorers with an impressive 25 points, shooting 11-15 from the field while adding six rebounds.
Naudia Evans delivered a strong performance with 18 points and seven assists, while
Allison Clarke contributed 12 points and two assists.
Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, with LMU shooting 46.7% from the field and San Diego slightly better at 50%. Despite that, the Lions edged out a two-point lead, 18-16, at the end of the quarter.
LMU built on that momentum in the second, extending the lead to six after Hernandez converted a three-point play at the 5:06 mark.
San Diego responded in the third, going on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to two. However, Evans and Hernandez helped the Lions close the quarter on a 4-0 run, pushing their lead to 11 at 51-40.
The Toreros made a late push in the fourth, shooting 57.1% from the field compared to LMU's 35.7%. USD pulled within two points with just 37 seconds remaining, but the Lions held their ground to secure the win.
LMU returns to action on Saturday for Senior Night against Saint Mary's.
