Lions Fall for First Time in 2025

LOS ANGELES – The Lions dropped their first contest of the 2025 seasons, a 9-1 defeat to Cal Poly on Monday night at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.

Colby Wallace continued his torrid start to the season, collecting a pair of hits and coming feet away from a big homerun. The newly crowned WCC Player of the Week is now slashing .600/.700/1.767 through the first four games.

Devan Ornelas put the lone run on the board for the Lions with a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning.

LMU got a very strong start from Michael Nunez. The right-hander was through four scoreless innings before being lifted with runners on in the fifth. He struck out three and allowed only a pair of earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.

The Lions let a ton of freshmen get some work on Monday night. Nate Savoie got the start at designated hitter after earning WCC Freshman of the Week honors for his opening weekend contributions. Noah Malone once again got the start in left field. Head coach Donegal Fergus elected to get some reps for Matt Moreno as he was a late inning subsitution at shortstop, Luke Skinner who made his debut at second base, and Nolan Tillit worked a scoreless ninth inning on the mound.

The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 19 to face off against Long Beach State. The matchup will begin at 6:00 p.m. (PT) with tickets available at LMULions.com. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
