FRESNO, CA – The Lions couldn't hold up Saturday morning, losing to the UCSB Gauchos, 4-3, on the final day of the Fresno State Kickoff Classic.
After falling behind 2-0 early, the Lions roared back in the third inning.
Sakora Harvell came through with a clutch two-run single, bringing home
Emma Gutierrez and
Justine Lambert, tying the game.
Moments later,
Kealani Caster ripped an RBI double, scoring another run to give LMU a 3-2 lead.
UC Santa Barbara responded in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a solo home run followed by a run to reclaim a 4-3 advantage. From that point, both teams defense locked in, keeping the score unchanged for the remainder of the game.
Jessica Hubbard and the Lions defense stepped up with solid plays in the outfield, preventing the Gauchos from extending their lead.
The Lions take the field again next weekend at the Marry Nutter Invitational taking on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 6 PM in Palm Springs, CA.
