SPOKANE, WA – The Lions battled but couldn't overcome the Gonzaga Bulldogs, falling 69-57 on Saturday afternoon.
Three Lions hit double figures in the game.
Brandi Williams led the way with 14 points and six rebounds.
Naudia Evans and
Maya Hernandez added 13, with Evans dishing out five assists and Hernandez grabbing five boards.
The first quarter was a grind for both teams, with shots not falling. LMU shot 31.6% from the field while Gonzaga managed just 26.3%. The Lions capitalized at the free-throw line and held a 15-10 lead after one.
Evans and Hernandez were the only Lions to score in the second quarter. Despite being outscored 15-6, LMU kept it close, trailing just 25-21 at the half.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with LMU keeping it within single digits.
Carly Heidger scored seven points, going 3-for-4 from the field and knocking down a three. Gonzaga edged out LMU in the quarter, 21-19, and took a 46-40 lead into the fourth.
That's when the Bulldogs pulled away. A quick 7-0 run stretched their lead to 16, and despite the Lions' best efforts, they couldn't close the gap.
LMU looks to bounce back on Thursday, Feb. 20, when they take on the Pacific Tigers at Gersten Pavilion.
