Lions Drop Road Game to Waves

MALIBU, CA – The LMU Lions fell to the Pepperdine Waves, 55-43, in the first matchup of the PCH Cup Rivalry on Tuesday night.

Freshman Allison Clarke led the Lions with 12 points, shooting an efficient 3-for-4 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range. Naudia Evans contributed nine points and six rebounds, while Carly Heidger added eight points and seven boards.

The game started off evenly, with LMU shooting 30.8% from the field and Pepperdine slightly ahead at 33.3%. The Lions controlled most of the first quarter, but a Waves layup with 3:50 remaining gave Pepperdine the lead, and they ended the period up 12-11.

LMU struggled offensively in the second quarter, scoring just five points as Pepperdine outscored them by 10 to take a 27-16 lead into halftime.

Midway through the third, the Lions sparked a 6-0 run, started by an Evans jumper, to cut the deficit to single digits. However, Pepperdine responded and maintained a 41-29 lead heading into the final quarter.

Clarke stood out in the fourth quarter, leading all scorers with seven points. While both teams added 14 points in the final period, the Lions couldn't close the gap, allowing the Waves to secure the victory.

The Lions next matchup is Thursday, Jan. 30, against the San Francisco Dons in San Francisco, CA.
