STOCKTON, CA – The LMU Lions fell to the Pacific Tigers, 62-51, on Thursday night in their first game since Jan. 4.
Naudia Evans led the Lions with a strong performance, recording 19 points and seven rebounds.
Maya Hernandez added a double-double with 13 points and an impressive 16 rebounds, while
Carly Heidger also contributed 13 points.
LMU struggled in the opening quarter, shooting just 28.6% from the field compared to PAC's 46.2%. By the end of the first quarter, the Tigers had taken an early 15-8 lead.
PAC extended their advantage in the second quarter with a hot shooting performance, hitting over 50% from the field (8-14) and outscoring LMU by nine. The Tigers entered halftime with a commanding 33-17 lead.
The Lions found some rhythm in the third quarter, shooting 42.9% (6-14) from the field while holding the Tigers to 38.9% (7-18). LMU was aggressive offensively, getting to the free-throw line and converting 6-7 attempts, including a perfect 4-4 from Heidger. However, the Lions still trailed 52-35 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final period, LMU made a strong push, starting with key baskets from Evans. The Lions outscored the Tigers 16-10 in the quarter, shooting 2-7 from beyond the arc and 6-10 from the free-throw line. They also dominated the boards, outrebounding PAC 16-6. A late three-pointer by Evans brought the Lions within single digits, but the comeback fell short as time ran out.
The Lions will look to bounce back on Saturday at 2 PM when they host the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Gersten Pavilion.
