LOS ANGELES – The LMU Lions swept the Utah State Aggies, 3-0, Friday night at Gersten Pavilion.

Utah State struck first, scoring the opening two points. The teams traded blows, tying the score three times before the Aggies went on a six-point run, pulling ahead 15-8. However, the Lions responded with six straight points of their own, fueled by five consecutive kills from Paige Flickinger and Leah Burrell, followed by a block from Burrell, giving LMU an 18-17 lead. Utah State showed resilience, but LMU held firm, taking the first set 25-22

In the second set, LMU built an early lead, sparked by a Burrell kill that initiated a 6-0 run to push the Lions ahead 14-5. Utah State managed a few points, but LMU stayed in control throughout. The set concluded with a kill from Sophia Meyers and a block from Flickinger and Jiana Lawson, securing a 25-14 win for the Lions.

LMU continued their dominance in the third set, jumping to a 6-3 lead. After a quick three-point burst forced a Utah State timeout, the Lions went on another run, capped by a Meyers kill from a Delfina Schuh assist, extending their lead to 13-5. The Aggies couldn't close the gap, and a Sam Hastings kill sealed the set, 25-12, giving LMU the match victory.

Flickinger posted an impressive .636 hitting percentage, tallying 14 kills on 22 attacks without committing a single error.

Mia Schafer led both teams with 16 assists, while Hastings led with eight digs and Burrell with six blocks.

The Lions return to action on September 21, facing the USC Trojans at the Galen Center.
