CSUN Outlasts Lions After Delayed Start

LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's soccer team fell to CSUN 2-1 on Thursday night at Sullivan Field after a two-hour delay set the game back to 6:00 p.m. (PT).

The Matadors started got a dream start after forcing a turnover early, playing a ball down the left wing, and using a well-paced, curled finish to get on the board with only three minutes gone.

The Lions trailed at halftime but came out of the locker room a different team.

The Lions won a pair of early corners and Tyler Trusner sent in two inviting crosses that put the Matadors defense to work. The first found its way to Nacho Macias, who ripped a shot that was saved by the CSUN keeper. The second found the head of Kayvon Monfared and was kept off the line by the Matadors' backline.

In the 53rd minute, Gael Quintero scored his first Lions' goal after some well-worked ball movement from the Lions' attack. He played a ball back to Mydas Smalls who pinged it across the field to Anthony Wilson. Wilson played it first-time across goal to a streaking Quintero who tapped it in to knot the score at one.

The Lions went down a man just ten minutes later after Monfared was sent off with a red card.

The Matadors scored the winner in the 86th minute.

The Lions will return to Sullivan Field as part of a day-night doubleheader paired with the women's team. The women will host Pittsburgh at 1:00 p.m. (PT) before handing it off to the men's team at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for both matches are available on LMULions.com and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
