MORAGA, CA – Thursday afternoon's matchup ended with the Lions falling short in, 5-3, against the Saint Mary's Gaels.
Saint Mary's took an early lead in the first inning with a double to left center, notching an RBI.
The Lions clawed back in the third inning when
Izzy Jamgotchian smashed a homer to right field, bringing
Elisa Rosado and herself home. This put the Lions ahead 2-1.
However, Saint Mary's responded in the bottom of the inning with a fielder's choice that brought two Gaels across the plate. Despite striking out swinging, the Gaels capitalized on a wild pitch, scoring an unearned run.
Both
Jenna Perez for the Lions and the Gael's Vasquez pitched solid fourth innings, with no runs, hits, or errors. In the fifth inning, Saint Mary's widened their lead with a run scored from a fly out to right field, making it 5-2 in their favor.
Although the Lions managed to add one more run in the seventh inning with
Jasmine Sofowora's homer, it wasn't enough to snatch victory from the Gaels, who ultimately triumphed 5-3.
The series will continue tomorrow at 12 PM in Moraga, CA.
