Lions Seals Sweep Against Roadrunners

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Lions dominated in both matchups against the Cal State University Bakersfield Roadrunners on Tuesday afternoon, securing wins in game one with a score of 7-3 and in game two with an impressive shutout, ending 14-0.

Game one:

In the opening innings, both teams struggled to score, but the Lions took the lead with Jasmine Sofowora's homer in the second inning, making it 1-0. LMU continued their momentum in the third, with Mika Chong's two-RBI homer followed by Izzy Jamgotchian's solo shot, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Jamgotchian wasn't done, adding another homer in the fourth inning, bringing in Chong and Elisa Rosado. The Roadrunners finally responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs, but still trailing 7-2.

Despite another run by the Roadrunners in the fifth, the Lions secured the victory, ending the game 7-3. Jessica Hubbard won as pitcher, improving her record to 4-2.

Game two:

The Lions ignited the scoreboard in the second inning, led by Rosado's RBI single that brought Kealani Caster home. This was swiftly followed by Arianna Jaurequi's double down the right field line, earning two RBIs. Chong added to the tally with a single up the middle, scoring Jaurequi and extending the Lions' lead to 4-0. The inning concluded on a high note as Jamgotchian's massive homer propelled the Lions to a 7-0 advantage.

Jamgotchian continued her offensive onslaught in the fourth inning, securing three more RBIs with her second homer of the game. Lauryn Carter's strategic pinch-running paid off as she singled through the right side, advancing Madalie Gomez and bringing Hayley Olivas and Adele Braun home.

Olivas extended the Lions lead in the fifth inning with a hit that drove Pero home, widening the gap to 12-0. Gomez then delivered a crucial double to third base, scoring Olivas and Pero, solidifying the Lions dominant lead at 14-0.

Jenna Perez, Lindsay O'Dell, and the Lions defense maintained a flawless performance, shutting out the Roadrunners for the entirety of the game.

The Lions next game is Thursday at 3PM against the Saint Mary's Gaels in Moraga, CA.
