Lions Fall in San Diego Finale

SAN DIEGO – The LMU baseball team dropped the final game of the series against San Diego 15-12 on Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park in San Diego.

The Lions offense woke up in a big way on Sunday, but it was not enough to get past the surging Toreros.

Daalen Adderley collected three hits including a two-run homerun in the eighth inning.

Benny Casillas also notched three hits, with Brendan Bobo, Christian Dicochea and Robbie Ayers collecting two apiece.

LMU got on the board first with a one-out RBI single from Dicochea. Adderley lined a one-out single up the middle before Brendan Bobo ripped a single through the right side of the infield. Bobo hustled into second after the throw went to third and was fractionally safe. Dicochea stepped up and blooped a single into right-center field to plate both runners.

The Toreros answered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and one more in the third.

LMU would cut the lead to one run in the fourth inning and it was Adderley getting the rally started once again.

He led off the frame with a single through the middle of the infield and advanced to second when Bobo was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a throwing error on a pickoff to second base. Dicochea walked on a full count to load the bases. After a pitching change, Ayers walked to collect an RBI. Devan Ornelas followed with a hard hit ball to first that the first baseman could not handle with all runners safe on the play. Casillas singled through the right side to score Ayers and Dicochea to pull the Lions close.

The Toreros would answer in the fifth and sixth with five runs and three runs respectively.

LMU would cut into the lead in the seventh.

Bobo led off the inning with a double down the right field line before advancing to third on a fly ball to right field. He would score on a Grant Weiss sacrifice fly.

The Lions got closer with two more in the eighth.

With Sam Biller on first after a fielder's choice, Adderley blasted a two-run shot over the left field fence for his fourth of the season.

In the ninth, the Lions once again demonstrated how dangerous they can be when their backs are against the wall.

Chasing a five-run deficit, Dicochea led off the inning with a line-drive single to left. Ayers and Ornelas were hit on back-to-back pitches. Casillas walked on four pitches to notch an RBI and the first run of the inning for the Lions. After a pitching change, Diego Baqueiro drove a 1-2 pitch down the left field line for a double to put the tying run at the plate. That was all the Lions could muster.

The Lions have a long week ahead of them as they travel to Santa Barbara on Tuesday before making up a rain cancellation against UC Riverside on Wednesday. The Lions then play host to Saint Mary's over the weekend. All five of this week's games will be televised on ESPN+.
