LOS ANGELES – The Lions wrapped up their series against the Pacific Tigers with a commanding 3-1 lead, securing their victory in game four with a narrow 2-1 win on Sunday morning.
In the opening moments of the match, the Tigers kicked off the scoring with a powerful homer in the top of the first inning, seizing an early advantage. However, the Lions quickly retaliated in the bottom half as
Arianna Jaurequi smashed a double to left field, securing her spot on base. Even though
Mika Chong walked and advanced to second base, the Lions couldn't convert these opportunities into runs.
The following innings saw a pitching duel between Perez and the Tigers' Smith. Both sides managed to keep the scoreboard unaltered, recording no runs or hits.
It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth inning that the Lions managed to even the score.
Madalie Gomez's single to right-center field allowed
Lauryn Carter to advance and brought
Adele Braun home.
With no hits in the fifth, sixth, or top of the seventh innings, the game seemed destined for extra innings. However, the Lions changed the course of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Jaurequi's single to center field put the Lions in prime position, and her subsequent advancement to third set the stage for
Hayley Olivas. Olivas rose to the occasion, delivering a clutch single up the middle to secure the winning RBI, sending Jaurequi home and clinching a 2-1 victory for the Lions in the series' final game.
The Lions next game is May 7 against Cal State Bakersfield in Bakersfield, CA at 12 PM.
