LMU Wins 20th-Straight Game to Advance to GCC Championship Final

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – LMU women's water polo still has not trailed in the Golden Coast Conference Tournament after taking down San Diego State on Saturday and advancing to the GCC Title Game. The No. 6 Lions defeated San Diego State, 18-12, for a chance to earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on Sunday against Fresno State.

Noa Sasover set the tone from the start, scoring two of her career-high five goals in the opening minute of the game. Ruth Arino Ruiz doubled the lead with the next two goals before the midway of the opening period hit. San Diego State scored their first goal of the game at the 2:57 mark, before Yanah Gerber and Lior Ben David built the lead up to 6-1. The Lions held a 6-2 lead after the first period of play.

The Aztecs pulled within one, scoring the first three goals of the second quarter before LMU closed out the half with the final four. Sophia Kadifa put a stop to San Diego State's run before Arino Ruiz, Sasover, and Skye Nankervis built the lead up to 10-5 over the last three minutes of the half.

The offense continued in the third quarter, as LMU put five more shots past the SDSU goalkeepers.

Sasover scored in all four quarters after adding a fourth period goal. Mikayla Lopez and Gerber scored less than a minute apart to solidify the win and advance LMU into the Championship Game.

Inbar Geva made five saves in her 16 minutes in the cage, and Madison Davis made four saves in her 16 second half minutes.

The Championship Game will be played at 1:00 PM Sunday at Santa Clara. The winner will represent the GCC in the NCAA Tournament.
