Lions and Tigers Trade Wins in Doubleheader

LOS ANGELES – On Saturday, the Lions divided their matchups against the Pacific Tigers, claiming victory in the first game with a 12-0 win, yet falling short in the second game with a narrow 5-4 loss.

Game 1:

In the early innings, the Lions gained control as Mika Chong's single drove Arianna Jaurequi home, followed by Jasmine Sofowora's RBI single and Adele Braun's fifth season homer, propelling the Lions to a 4-0 lead.

In the second inning, LMU kept the energy going with seven runs. Chong and Sakora Harvell each launched homers, while Jaurequi and Elisa Rosado added to the tally. Despite an unearned run, LMU extended their lead to 8-0.

The game's final run came in the sixth inning when Madalie Gomez's single and a throwing error allowed Harvell to score, sealing LMU's victory at 12-0 in six innings.

Savannah Hooks secured the win on the mound, tallying one strikeout and limiting the opponents to just two hits, improving her record to 4-3.

Game 2:

The Lions got off to a strong start, with Jaurequi's impressive home run in the first inning giving them an early lead. Pitchers Lindsay O'Dell and Croxall of the Tigers showcased their skills, allowing only one hit each over the next three innings.

However, momentum shifted in the fifth inning as Pacific began to assert themselves. The Tigers capitalized on their chances, scoring two crucial runs to edge ahead of the Lions, leading 2-1. The Lions managed to get a hit, but weren't unable to convert it into a run. The top of the sixth inning saw the Lions defense stepping up admirably, keeping them in the game. But just when Pacific seemed to be gaining momentum, Braun's homer to left field swung the advantage back to LMU, with the Lions leading 3-2.

In a tense seventh inning, the Tigers staged a comeback with two runs, reclaiming the lead at 4-3. Despite the Lions bringing in pitcher Jenna Perez for relief, a walk allowed the Tigers to add another run. Although the Lions fought back with one more run in the bottom of the inning, they ultimately fell short, resulting in a 5-4 victory for Pacific.

The series will conclude tomorrow with the final game set to begin at 10 AM at Smith Field.
